A signing ceremony between SUFE Qingdao Wealth Management Institute and UK’s Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment held at Fuxin Hotel, Qingdao on June 21, 2017, underscored the two parties’ intent to introduce International Certificate of Wealth Management to Qingdao. The ceremony was attended by Counselor Nick Low of the British Embassy in China, Simon Culhane, CEO of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, and Jiang Hui, Executive Dean of SUFE Qingdao Wealth Management Institute.

In his address, Nick Low said the introduction of International Certificate of Wealth Management to Qingdao opens a new chapter for cooperation between Qingdao and the UK. “The UK is the world’s first-class financial center. The CISI, a crucial part of the UK’s financial development, has boosted financial growth by training financial professionals.” He said, this move will promote the development of Qingdao Wealth Management & Financial Reform Pilot Zone, spur the city’s financial industry and train more financial professionals. At the same time, Nick Low expressed his willingness to cooperate with Qingdao in broad fields like life science, cutting-edge manufacturing and sports.

Simon Culhane said this is the very first time the CISI ever came to China. Thanks to the great support from Qingdao Municipal Government, it has successfully partnered with Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and introduced International Certificate of Wealth Management to Qingdao. “I believe Qingdao will further rise in its ranking among the world financial cities with professionals’ pool and improved financial education.” He said, the CISI runs over 40,000 exams in more than 100 countries around the world, with its exam recognized by financial service supervisors in over 40 countries. “And as longevity extends, people have to work longer hours and spend more time on wealth management. Therefore, there will be a jump in demand for wealth managers and financial advisors. ”

Jiang Hui, Executive Dean of SUFE Qingdao Wealth Management Institute, said International Certificate of Wealth Management will provide international financial knowledge and a stage-by-stage training mode for all learners and practitioners who are working or intend to work in the emerging financial services industry such as wealth management. He said, International Certificate of Wealth Management, a life-time open platform for learning based on knowledge of many professionals, will prove its authoritativeness in the industry through the two parties’ cooperation, and witness its growth in Qingdao-the sole financial reform pilot zone in China focusing wealth management. In his address, Jiang pointed out that the certificate’s worth doesn’t lie in its difficult exams; instead, it leads finance learners (including non-professionals) step by step through professional, advanced, and professor-level stages until they reach the climax of financial career.

Ernest Young, deputy general manager of Changsheng Fund Management Co., Ltd., shared in his address his experience as a chartered CISI member when he first joined the CISI and analyzed in depth the differences between the CISI and other similar organizations. He said, International Certificate of Wealth Management aims to enhance students’ knowledge and skills in wealth and investment management, and this is CISI’s first financial course with exams available in Mandarin. Students may take advanced courses after graduation and certificate holders are allowed to advise clients in the UK on wealth management and become a CISI member.
